Roseville is located in Placer County, which is also part of the metropolitan area of Sacramento about 17 miles to the Southwest. Interstate Highway 80 and California Highway 65 runs through Roseville.

Roseville was established around the 1860s when the Central Pacific and California Central Railroads lines crossed there which was called the junction. Designated on railroad maps for years simply as "Junction", Roseville existed for decades thereafter as merely a small freight and passenger railroad shipping point of about 250 inhabitants catering to the needs of local farmers and ranchers. In the early 1900s things changed when the railroad roundhouse and repair facilities were move to Roseville from Rocklin.  This changed the town quickly into a active town of two or three thousand.  Roseville incorporated in 1909 and sustained a steady period of growth, finally becoming Placer County’s largest and most significant city.  Roseville continued to grow quickly.
